The school's educational philosophy is to provide a holistic education for each student that enables them to lead a fulfilling life in a post-school world. The school’s specialist staff and purpose-built environment allows students to achieve success through a focus on communication, literacy, numeracy and social skills.
The school achieves its mission by providing each student with a Personalised Plan which promotes the development of listening, language and academic skills and positive social outcomes. Part of this Personalised Plan includes the school’s Total Communication philosophy, which includes the determination of the modes of communication that best serve the student such as Auslan, Signed English, Assistive Technology, visuals and AAC devices.
St Dominic’s is now accepting enrolments for Kindergarten students who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This class will support each student’s educational needs in addition to their language, social and sensory needs and aims to prepare students for either a smooth transition into a mainstream setting or the continuance of learning in a specialised setting. There are limited spaces and appropriate diagnostic reports must be presented with the enrolment application.
The primary program at St Dominic's enrols students from Kindergarten to Year 6 and allows students to experience individual instruction, small group learning and spend time integrated into mainstream classes.
The secondary students of St Dominic's follow individual programs based on Life Skills outcomes and content. This involves community participation, living and independence skills, as well as some targeted inclusion with the San Clemente community. Students may attend assemblies, liturgies, sports carnivals or other events that are considered appropriate. All secondary students are in discrete classes and are not integrated educationally with San Clemente classes.Ìý
